Abstract

Language and culture are closely interrelated.One of the main objectives of English language teaching is to cultivate and develop the communicative competence of students,especially the cross-cultural communicative competence.The teaching of culture in college English classroom has not received much deserved attention.Both teachers and students should change their attitude towards the teaching of culture and examine the cultural factors and cross-cultural issues in English language teaching and learning.It is suggested that various methods be used in the teaching of culture in order to improve the effectiveness of English language teaching.
