Ambulatory blood pressure characteristic of patients with hypertension who are over 80 years old during their blood pressure-lowering therapy

Objective To analyze 24h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in old patients with hypertension aged over 80 and to provide information for clinical medication. Methods Restrospective 24h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring data in patients aged(≥80 years old group A)with hypertension(n=96)were analyzed and compared with those aged(60～79 years old group B)with hypertension(n=118). Results Blood pressure in patients aged over 80 were well controlled,their pulse pressure(pp),24hpp of group A is 62.26±9.60 and 24hpp of group B is 56.74±9.51. The rate of abnormal BP day-night rhythm were group A,more non-dipper(47.92%) and reversed-dipper(44.79%),group B,more non-dipper(49.15%)and dipper (38.14%). The rate of low diastolic pressure≤60mmHg in group A daily was 50.00% and night was 97.22%,group B daily was 15.38% and night was 62.96%. Reaching BP target were higher in group A han those in group B,P0.05. Conclusions The abnormal rate in 24h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring of patients aged ≥80 years old with hypertension were higher than those in the group of 60～79 years old. More attention should be paid to lower diastolic pressure during BP lowering therapy.
