Abstract

Objective To study insulin resistance and islet β cell function in women with gestational impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus, and to investigate the relationship between insulin resistance and macrosomia. Methods In 35 GIGT women and 12 GDM women, fasting blood glucose and insulin levels were measured, insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) and βcell function index(HBCI) calculated by HOMA model. Results there was no difference in HBCI in the two groups, but significant difference in HOMA-IR; HOMA IR in the GDM women was higher than in the GIGT group. There was no significant correlation between HOMA-IR and macrosomia. Conclusion Women with GDM have stronger IR compared with GIGT women, and no significant difference was found between HOMA-R and macrosomia.
