Effects of octreotide in patients with bowel obstruction

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of octreotide in patients with bowel obstruction.Methods 58 patients with complete bowel obstruction were randomly divided into two groups,including control group(n=25) and therapeutic group(n=33).Control group was treated with traditional treatment,and therapeutic group with octreotide in combination with traditional treatment.The effects of the two treatments were compared.Results The effects of the two treatments were significantly different.Remission rate(CR+PR) of therapeutic group was 93.9%,while that of control group 68%,which were significantly different.The exhaust of anus in therapeutic group was earlier than that of control group.The average volume of gastrointestinal decompression of therapeutic group was less than that of control group after treated.Conclusion Octreotide combination with traditional treatment can be very effective in the patients with different type of bowel obstruction.
