Abstract
Objective To analyze the sonographic features of small breast carcinoma on conventional gray scale and color Doppler ultrasound with high frequency so as to improve the early detection rate of small breast carcinoma. Methods Overall, 124 cases of small benign or malignant breast tumors were examined by ultrasound and the results were compared with the surgical and pathological findings. The different image features between small benign and malignant breast tumors were analyzed. Results Small benign and malignant breast tumors were significantly different in shape, boundary and capsule (P 0.05). The detection rates of minute calcification and blood vessels of perforating branches of malignant small carcinoma were 46.9 % (30/64) and 78.13 % (50/64), markedly higher than those of benign small tumors, which were 3. 3 % (2/60) and 1. 67 % (1/60), respectively (P 0. 01). Conclusions The conventional gray scale ultrasound in combination with color Doppler ultrasound examination is of great significance in the early detection of small breast carcinoma.
