Abstract

After the establishment of his empire,Emperor Wu of the Western Jin Dynasty strived to conquer the kingdom of Eastern Wu and unify the whole country. But after his success, instead of rewarding the officials according to their performances, the emperor even managed to curb the influence of such big figures as Du Yu,Zhang Hua and Wang Jun,who had rendered outstanding services in the war.The cause for his unfair treatment of such influential officials is that for Emperor Wu,who had learned a lot of lessons from his predecessors, how to prevent officials other than his kinsmen from acquiring absolute power was at the top of his agenda.
