Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and type 2 diabetic nephropathy. Methods Serum VEGF was measured in 40 control subjects and 122 patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus. The results were compared on the basis of urine albumin excretion rate levels. Results The serum VEGF concentration was significantly increased in all diabetic patients and it was positively correlated with glycosylated hemoglobin level, course of disease, and urine albumin excretion rate(P 0.01).Conclusion VEGF is closely correlated with type 2 diabetic nephropathy. The detection of VEGF plays an important role in predicting the development and progression of type 2 diabetic nephropathy.
