Protective effect of Gankang IV on alcoholic fatty liver in rats

Abstract

[Objective]To explore the protective effect of Gankang IV on alcoholic fatty liver in rats.[Methods]Rats were given high fat diet and alcohol to establish model of alcoholic fatty liverand treated with different dosage of Gankang Ⅳ by gastrogavage.The rats were sacrificed at the end of 8th week,the level of aspartate transaminase(AST),alanine transaminase(ALT) in serum and total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA) in liver were detected respectively.The liver histopathology was observed and scored by eye and under microscope.The treated groups were compared with the normal control group,model group and Dongbaogantai(DBGT) group.[Results]In model group,the fatty degeneration was obvious.Gankang IV groups and DBGT group could significantly reduce the level of AST,ALT in serum and the content level of TC,TG,MDA in liver,elevate the activities of SOD in liver.Gankang IV was more efficient than DBGT on alcoholic fatty liver in rats.Liver histopathology examination showed Gankang IV could alleviate the fatty degeneration and punctiform necrosis.The fatty degeneration score under microscope showed middle and high dosage of Gankang IV imporved liver tissue better than DBGT.[Conclusion ]Gankang IV can resist oxidateive stress and lipid peroxidation damage,has good therapeutic efficacy on alcoholic fatty liver in rats.
