Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of acupuncture on senile postherpetic neuralgia. Methods Twenty-four patients were randomly allocated to acupuncture and medication groups. In the acupuncture group,Huatuojiaji points were selected on the affected side and other points, according to the patient’s condition. The medication group took analgesics and received intramuscular injection of neurotrophic agents. Results After 4 courses of treatment, the total efficacy rate was 91.6% in the acupuncture group and 83.3% in the medication group. Conclusion The total efficacy rate is significantly higher in the acupuncture group than in the medication group. In the former, the pain is obviously relieved or even disappears and does not recur.
