Observations on the Efficacy of Acupuncture in Treating Postherpetic Neuralgia

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in treating postherpetic neuralgia.Methods Patients were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 54 cases and a control group of 36 cases.The treatment group received acupuncture and the control group took Vitamin B1 20 mg and Vitamin C 300 mg orally,three times a day.Results The total efficacy rate was 96.3% in the treatment group and 83.3% in the control group.A rank sum test showed a significant difference in therapeutic effect between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture is superior to medication in treating postherpetic neuralgia.
