Combined Acupuncture and Medication for Treating Neuralgia of Herpes Zoster

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of combined acupuncture and medication for treating neuralgia of herpes zoster.Method Eighty-five patients with herpes zoster were randomly divided into a treatment group(n=49) and a control group(n=36).The control group was treated with conventional Western medication,and the treatment group was managed by acupuncture plus acupoint injection in addition to the conventional Western medication.The clinical condition and treatment effect were compared between the two groups after treatment.Results The average time of pain alleviation in the treatment group was significantly shorter than that in the control group(P0.01).The pain score and total effective rate in the treatment group respectively after 1-week treatment,2-week treatment,and 1-month treatment were significantly different from that in the control group(P0.01).Conclusion The combination of acupuncture and medication is effective and safe for treating neuralgia of herpes zoster.
