Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) and conventional insulin treatment (CIT) in old patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: Fifty old patients with type 2 diabetes were studied by two methods of intensive insulin delivery: (1)CSII group ( n =24), (2)CIT group ( n =26).Results:To reach the same blood glucose level, the average duration of treatment, the insulin dosage and the hypoglycemia incidence markedly decreased in CSII group ( P 0.05 or P 0.01). Conclusion: CSII can imitate the physiological insulin secretion, which can control the hyperglycemia more quickly and effectively and reduce the hypoglycemia risk.
