Abstract
Objective: To study the correlation between tumor microvessels and growth, metastasis of prostatic carcinoma. Methods: The expression of factor Ⅷ-related antigen and prostatic specific antigen (PSA) in 19 prostatic carcinomas (Pc) and 40 benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were determined using immunohistochemistry and radioimmunoassay respectively. Their average value and correl ation were analyzed also. Results: The density of microvessels (MVD) and the value of PSA in Pc were significantly higher than those in BPH. The MVD and value of PSA in metastastic Pc were higher than those in nonmetastastic Pc. The MVD correlated with PSA positively in Pc. Conclusion: Angiogenesis closely correlate with the development, progress and metastasis of Pc. Tumor growth and metastasis depend on angiogenesis.
