Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical outcome of amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in the treatment of pterygium. Methods 50 pterygium patients (56 eyes) underwent pterygium excision and amniotic membrane transplantation surgery. Results The mean follow-up period was 12 months. The curative rate of primary operation for pterygium was 92.8%, and the recurrence rate of pterygium was 7.2%. Conclu-sions Pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation which proved to be of successful outcome and low recurrent rate is a valuable therapeutic method for the treatment of pterygium.
