Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT) in treating pterygium. Methods 40 patients (46 eyes)with pterygium were treated with excision of pterygium and fresh amniotic membrane transplantation. Results Patient were followed up for mean 20 months. The curative rate of primary operation for pterygium was 97 1%,and the recurrence rate of pterygium was 2 9%. Conclusions The excision of pterygium combined with fresh amniotic transplantation is a valuable therapeutic method for the pterygium with high successd and low recurrent rate.
