Abstract
Manufacturing is the main industry of the region and determines the speed and quality of regional economic development. Based on shift- share analysis, this paper makes a comparative analysis of the overall situation of industry structure and competitiveness of China's manufacturing Level 1 areas. Studies have shown that according to the theory of advantage of backwardness, the manufacturing industry of Jiangsu and Shangdong catch up with Guangdong. Manufacturing industry in Jiangsu develops fast but the industrial structure is the main restricting reason for its future development. Manufacturing industry maintains a good momentum of development in Shandong with the strongest comprehensive competitiveness. Manufacturing base in Guangdong is the best, but the proportion of industry development is unbalanced, and its industrial structure and competitiveness are the weakest. Through analysis, manufacturing of the three provinces compete with and are complementary to each other. There should be reasonable regional division of labor, strong regional cooperation and industry alliance.
