Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between thrombospodin-1 expression and the development of human prostate cancer and its clinical significance. Methods The expression of TSP-1 in 26 cases of prostate cancer tissues and 28 hyperplastic prostate tissues, and the expression of TSP-1 mRNA in the peripheral blood of patients with prostate cancers were detected with immunohistochemistry methods and semi-quantitive RT-PCR.The relationship between the expression of TSP-1 and the clinic pathological features of prostate cancer was analyzed with statistical method. Results 6 cases of prostate cancer tissues showed no TSP-1 expression,16 weakly positive and 4 positive. While 12 cases of hyperplastic tissues showed weakly positive and 16 positive. There was a significant correlation between the two groups. The expression of TSP-1 mRNA in the peripheral blood and prostate cancer tissues were down-regulated(P0.01) compared with that in the hyperplastic prostate tissues. Conclusions The expression of TSP-1 was down-regulated in prostate cancer tissues, and the expression of TSP-1 mRNA was down-regulated in the peripheral blood of patients with prostate cancer.
