Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of rosemary extracts on lowering blood lipid. Methods: The male C57BL/6 mice were divided into 5 groups, including the control group fed with a basal diet, model group given with a high-fat diet and three intervention groups administered with rosemary extracts at does of 0.25%, 0.5% and 1.0%. Twelve weeks later mice were sacrificed, collected the serum and tissue for testing. Results: the high-fat model was found in the mice fed the diet containing high lipid. The TC, TG, non-high density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) and the value of atherosclerosis index (AI) in serum could be decreased significantly in the hyperlipidemic mice by rosemary extracts. The HDL-C in serum could be increased. The TC, TG in liver could also be decreased. Furthermore, MDA contents in serum and liver were deceased, and liver were decreased, and activities of antioxidant enzymes were increased. Conclusion: rosemary extracts has an obvious effect on lowering blood lipid, Preventing and reducing the incidence of atherosclerosis, increasing the antioxidant activities of serum and liver, Among them the group at dose of 1% showed the best effect.
