Effect of Astragalus menbranaceus in treatment of primary nephrotic syndrome

Objective:To investigate the curative effect of Astragalus menbranceus in treatment of primary nephrotic syndrome.Methods:Ninety seven patients were divided into three groups at random:the group A was treated with prednisone,the group B treated with prednisone and Salvia miltiorrhiza,and the group C treated with prednisone and Astragalus menbranaceus.The changes in their urine protein,serum albumin,blood fat,and their symptoms and signs before and after the treatment were observed.Results:The decrease of urine protein,increase of serum albumin and lowering in total cholesterol were found in the three groups.After the treatment in the group treated with Astragalus menbranaceus,the decrease of urine protein,the lower of total cholesterol and the increase of serum albumin are more significant than those in the other two groups( P 0.01 ).Meanwhile,the relief in edema and abdominal fluctuation in the group treated with Astragalus mengranaceus was more significant than that of the other two groups( P 0.05).Conclusions:Astragalus menbranaceus can decrease excretion of urine protein,increase serum albumin,lower blood fat level and relieve the clinic symptoms in patients with primary nephrotic syndrome.
