Abstract
Objective To investigate the hyperuricemia related factors and its correlation with metabolic syndrome in elder people. Methods Eight hundred and seventy-three elder persons were divided into two groups according to serum uric acid level (≥416 μmol/L in male and ≥350 μmol/L in female).Blood samples were collected for the measurement of serum uric acid (SUA),triglyceride (TG),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDLC),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),serum creatinine (Scr),blood urea nitrogen (BUN),fasting blood glucose (FBG),hemoglobin (Hb),pre-albumin (PA),apolipoprotein B (ApoB).Body indexes including height, weight, waist circumference (WC),hip circumference (HC),and systolic blood pressure (SBP),diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were determined.Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR),body mass index (BMI),waist-to-height ratio(WHtR) and waist-tohip ratio(WHR) were calculated. Results WC,HC,WHR,WHtR,body weight,BMI,TG,Hb,PA,and ApoB were obviously higher in hyperuricemia group, but eGFR and HDL-C were significantly lower.People in hyperuricemia group were easier to suffer from metabolic syndrome and fatty liver.Logistic regression analysis showed that age,eGFR,TG,BUN and BMI were main factors influencing serum uric acid level. After adjusting these factors, serum uric acid level was positively correlated with the prevalence of MS.In hyperuricemia group, the proportion of subjects having three or more components of MS was significantly higher. Conclusions Increased serum uric acid level correlates significantly with metabolic syndrome and fatty liver.Hyperuricemia might be an important component of metabolic syndrome.
