Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid and Metabolic Syndrome among males of Guilin.METHODS A total 1 234 male subjects who received health examination were collected from The Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical College between Oct 2010 to Jan 2010.Among 1 234 males cases, height, weight, blood pressure, serum uric acid(UA),fasting plasma glucose(FPG),triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)were detected.1 234 cases were divided into 2 groups according to their serum uric acid level, including hyperuricemia group(HUA,n = 268)and normal serum uric acid group(control group,n = 966),and then the relationship was between the clinical indexes and metabolic syndrome were analyzed.RESULTS(1)The prevalence of hyperuricemia was 21.72%.(2)In HUA group. The levels of TG,TC,LDL-C,Body mass index(BMI),systolic blood pressure(SBP)and diastolic pressure(DBP)were significantly higher than those in control group. The level of HDL-C was significantly lower than that in control group(P﹤0.01).(3)A linear correlation analysis showed UA was positively correlated with TG,TC,LDL-C,BMI,SBP and DBP.The UA was negative correlated with HDL-C(P﹤0.01).A multiple stepwise regression analysis showed the TG,BMI and DBP entered regression equation.(4)In HUA group. The prevalence of obesity and overweight, hypertension and dyslipidemia were higher than those in control group.CONCLUSION Serum uric acid is positively associated with metabolic syndrome. It is important that hyperuricemia and metabolic syndrome should be prevented and treated early.
