The application of non-invasive ventilation in the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract

Objective To explore clinical efficacy of non-invasive mechanical ventilation on the patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS).Methods Twenty cases of ARDS patients were treated with non-invasive ventilation.The patients were divided into success and failure group in accordance with the efficacy of non-invasive ventilation.Heart rate(HR),respiratory rate(RR),oxygenation index(PaO2/FiO2),partial pressure of oxygen(PaO2),carbon dioxide partial pressure(PaCO2)and oxygen saturation(SaO2)were recorded before and after the treatment of non-invasive mechanical ventilation between the two groups.Results 11 cases of patients with early ARDS were successful in the treatment using non-invasive ventilation.There was significant efficacy after 2 h with the treatment of non-invasive ventilation among PaO2/FiO2,HR,PaO2,SaO2 and RR.Patients with more serious respiratory distress showed failure after the treatment of non-invasive ventilation.There was no significant change among PaO2/FiO2,HR,PaO2,PaCO2,SaO2 and RR 2 hours after the treatment of non-invasive ventilation.Conclusion The non-invasive ventilation is good for some patients with ARDS,especially in the early stages of ARDS.
