Abstract
Objective To observe the relationship between ambulatory blood pressure(ABP) characteristics and TCM syndromes of patients with elderly hypertensive(EH).Methods 254 EH patients were recruited in the present study, and ABP measurements were performed. The damage degree of target organs was determined by heart color ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, electrocardiogram, cerebrovascula MRI and biochemical tests. Results Phlegm-turbidity accumulation syndrome is the main syndrome(51%),liver-fire hyperactivity syndrome in male was more popular than that in female, and Yin-deficiency and Yang-hyperactivity syndrome in female was more popular than that in male. The age of patients with prevailing excess syndromes was younger than that with prevailing deficiency syndromes. There was no significant difference in pulse pressure and nighttime blood pressure decrease rate among patients with different syndromes. The level of systolic blood pressures in patients with liver-fire hyperactivity syndrome was the highest, which was more obvious in male. There was no significant difference in systolic blood pressures among female patients with different syndromes. The morning blood pressure surge in patients with Yin-yang concurrent deficiency syndrome was lower than that with other syndromes, the number of damaged target organs was relatively more, and the number in patients with liver-fire hyperactivity syndrome was relatively less. Conclusion There is a significant difference among syndrome characteristics of EH patients of different ages.Phlegm-turbidity accumulation syndrome is the main syndrome,liver-fire hyperactivity syndrome is the main pathological mechanism in the early stage of EH,and Yin-deficiency and Yang-hyperactivity syndrome and Yin-yang concurrent deficiency syndrome are the main pathological mechanism in the late stage.
