A Historic Research into China's Participation in Early World Expos——Focusing on the Publication of Maritime Customs of Old China

Abstract
Based on the world expo catalogue of record of publication in Maritime Customs of Old China,this paper probes into such problems as how many times the late Qing government has taken part in the World Expo,what is the World Expo called in different time,what China has exhibited,etc.The research shows that from 1873 to 1905,Chinese government participated in at least 11 World Expos and 8 of them were registered.The paper briefly analyzes the role Maritime Customs played in China's participation in the World Expo,pointing out Old China's participating in the Expo is an important step of walking to the world.
