Abstract

Objective To study the effect of metformin therapy on ovulation rates in clomiphene citrate(CC) resistant women with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS). Methods Twenty three women with clomiphene citrate resistant PCOS that had unovulation after taking CC for three monthes with most amount 100 mg/d were treat with metformin, 500 mg, tid, for one month. Glucose?Insulin?PRL?LH?FSH?E 2?A?T?17 OHP and body index?blood pressure and ovulation?pregnancy were valued. Results Metformin therapy resulted in a significant decrease in Insulin?A?T?17 OHP No significant change in glucose?blood pressure?PRL?FSH?E 2?LH?LH/FSH?BMI;Mature folicles were found in 19 cases in 23(83.4%), there were ovulationin 16cases(69 6%) and pregnancy in two cases(8.7%). Conclusion Metformin therapy not only decrease in insulin and androgens but also improve ovulation rates and pregnancy rates in clomiphene citrate(CC) resistant women with PCOS.
