Abstract
Objective To study the clinical value of brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) on diagnosis and condition assessment of chronic heart failure(CHF). Methods One hundred and sixty hospitalized patients with CHF(CHF group) and forty hospitalized patients with non-CHF(non-CHF group) were randomly selected. Plasma BNP and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) were tested in all patients. Results Plasma BNP level in CHF group was higher than that of non-CHF group(P0.01). Plasma BNP level was positively correlated with the severity of heart failure, and negatively with LVEF. At a cut-off BNP concentration of100 pg/mL, diagnosing sensitivity was 94.4%, and specificity was 95.0%. Patients with high BNP level correlated with higher mortality. Conclusion Rapid detection of BNP had important significance in diagnosis and condition assessment of CHF.
