Abstract
Objective:To study the clinical significance of B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP)in the diagnosis of congestive heart failure(CHF)and the value of different BNP levels in the prediction of heart failure.Methods:BNP levels were measured with a rapid assay in 196 patients with dyspnea,whose other clinical data such as clinical history,symptoms and signs,X-xay and so on were collected at the same time.The collection of BNP levels and clinical diagnosis were evaluated.The patients were divided into three groups according to the final diagnosis:the CHF group,the pulmonary disease group and neither CHF nor pulmonary disease group.Results:(1)The accuracy of the diagnosis of CHF by BNP was better than other clinical predictors.(2)The BNP cutoff point judged to be optimal for making the diagnosis of CHF was 100 pg/ml.(3)The BNP levels in CHF group,pulmonary disease group and neither CHF nor pulmonary disease group were 876.3±669.2,90.8±110.4,88.9±130.8 pg/ml respectively.The BNP levels in CHF group were much higher than other two groups(P0.01).Conclusion:The BNP level plays a very important role in the diagnosis of CHF.
