Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of restoration of residual crown and residual root with glassfiber-reinforced composite post and core. Methods: 64 cases, 98 teeth were selected. The patients were divided into two groups randomly.32 cases in group A were restored with glassfiber-reinforced posts and cores, and 32 cases in group B were restored with cast metal posts and cores. All the teeth were restored with PFM crown finally. All patients were revisited half a year, one year, two years after treatment. Results: During the following up period one patient in group A with two teeth and one patient in group B with one tooth defaulted follow up. The restorations of 31 cases (46 teeth) functioned well, with good marginal fit in group A. No loose and fracture was found. 2 teeth of 2 cases in group B were found root fracture. 1 post and core was loose and 3 cases were found gingival grey line around 8 teeth. Conclusions: Clinical effect of glassfiber- reinforced composite post and core was satisfying. Glassfiber-reinforced composite post and core has many advantages, such as good biocompatibility, high-strength, fatigue-resistance, erosion-resistance, natural aesthetic, easy to be used and wide application. So it is a good choice in the restoration of residual crown and residual root.
