Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of restoration of residual crown and resalidual root with quartzfiber-reinforced composite post and core. Methods A total of 98 patients with 156 endodontically treated teeth who visited the Department of Prosthodontics of Jinan Stomatological Hospital were selected from January 2004 to January 2006.The patients were divided into quartzfiber-reinforced composite post and core group(49 cases with 72 defected teeth)and cast metal post and core group(49 cases with 84 defected teeth)randomly. All the teeth were restored with PFM crown. The therapeutic effects were observed after 3 years. Results During 3 years of clinical observation there was no one root fracture happening in quartzfiber-reinforced composite post and core group, only 1 post and core fractured. In cast metal post and core group 4 teeth were found root fracture,3 cast metal post and core were loose and 8 teeth were with gingival grey line. The successful rate of quartzfiber-reinforced composite post and core group(71/72,98.6%)was significantly higher than cast metal post and core group(69/84,82.1%),with significantly statistical difference in two groups. Conclusion Quartzfiber-reinforced composite post and core has excellent aesthetic performance;it has high-strength,fatigue-resistance,erosion-resistance and good biocompatibility without root fractures. So it is a good choice in the restoration of residual crown and residual root.
