Abstract
AIM To elucidate the expression and significance of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in bladder transitional cell carcinoma (BTCC). METHODS Expression of VEGF in 10 normal bladder tissues and 68 BTCC specimens were detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS VEGF expression was positive in 42 of 68 cases of bladder cancer and no one in normal control. There was a significant difference in expression of VEGF between grade Ⅱ or Ⅲ and Ⅰ, superficial and invasive. The 5 year survival was significantly lower in patients with positive expression of VEGF. CONCLUSION Expression of VEGF is related to the biological behaviors of the BTCC.
