Abstract

Objective To analyze drug resistance and its characteristics of Escherichia coli producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases(ESBLs) in lower respiratory tract infection. Methods Phenotypic confirmatory and the resistance of ESBLs were detected in 117 strains of Escherichia coli isolated from patients with lower respiratory tract infection from April 2009 to 2010.The positive rates were compared between the year from 2009 to 2010 and from 2006 to 2007.Results The total positive rate of Escherichia coli was 52.1%.The resistance rate to ampicillin, ceftriaxone and cephazolin was 100%,to aztreonam, cefepime and ceftazidime was over 90%.ESBLs were multi-resistant to cephalosporins, penicillins and chemitrim. The resistance rates of imipenem,ertapenem,piperacillin/tazobact,amikacin sulphate, tobramycin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, cefotetan, furadantin to ESBLs-producing strains were the lower, and the sensitivity of imipenem was 100%.There was no significant difference in the positive rate of Escherichia coli between the year from 2009 to 2010 and from 2006 to 2007(P0.05).Conclusion The prevalence of ESBLs is high in Escherichia coli and the resistance rates are high to lots of common antibiotics. The imipenem or beta-lactamase inhibitor of the complex are the main antibiotics to bacteria-producing ESBLs.
