Abstract
Objective To investigate the infection rate and drug resistance of extended spectrum β-lactamases(ESBLs)-producing Escherichia coli isolated from urine,so as to guide the rational use of antibiotics in clinic. Methods 1048 urine culture samples from patients with urinary tract infection were collected and analyzed in our hospital from June 2006 to June 2007.Drug sensitive test were per- formed with Kirby-Bauer method.ESBLs were detected with DDST(double-disk synergy test)and slip diffusion test recommended by CLSI/NCCLs.Results A total of 136 strains of Escherichia coli were isolated including 48 strains(35.3%)from males and 88 strains(64.7%)from females.46 strains of ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli were detected and the constituent ratio was 33.8%.None was detected resistant to imipenem.ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli strains were highly sensitive to nitrofurantoin, phosphonomycin and cefoperazone/sulbactam.Conclusion Escherichia eoli is the main pathogen in urinary tract infection, mostly in females(P0.05).The drug resistance of ESBLs-pro- ducing Escherichia coli to 10 antibiotics including gentamycin was much higher than that of ESBLs non-producing isolates(P0.05).It is a better Choice to use imipenem,cefoperazone/sulbactam, phosphonomycin, nitrofurantoin and amikacin in treating ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli infection. ESBLs detection should be paid emphasis on by the clinic. It is advisable to select antobiotics according to the results of drug sensitivity test.
