Observations on the curative effect of Rhubarb liquid on severe acute pancreatitis

Objective:To observe the clinical effect of Rhubarb liquid on severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).Methods: 76 cases with SAP were divided randomly into treatment group and control group.Both group were given routine western medicine,but in treatment group the patients were additionally administered with Rhubarb and Mirabilite,patients of control group were given normal saline.Their main clinical signs were observed.The plasma levels of TNF-α were examined.The incidence of gastrointestinal failure,secondary infection and mortality were also investigated.Results: The incidence and duration of main clinical signs,gastrointestinal failure and secondary infection in treatment group were significantly lower than those in control group.The plasma levels of TNF-a in treatment group decreased sharply.Although the overall mortality in treatment group was also lower than that in control group,there was not statistical difference between two groups(P0.05).Conclusions:Rhubarb liquid can promote the early recovery of gastrointestinal function,relieve systemic inflammatory reation and reduce the incidence of secondary infection.
