Abstract

Objective To explore the association between insertion/deficiency(I/D) polymorphism of angiotensin converting enzyme gene(ACEG) and insulin resistance(IR) in patients with essential hypertension(EH).Methods I/D polymorphism of ACEG were tested by means of PCR in 300 Han patients with EH.Fasting blood glucose and fasting insulin(FIN) were measured.Insulin resistance indexes(HOMA-IR) were calculated. The level of HOMA-IR and FIN were analyzed.According to the level of HOMA-IR,all objects were divided into IR group and without IR group. The frequency of I allele、D allele and the frequency of ID genotype、Ⅱ genotype、DD genotype were analyzed in two groups. Results HOMA-IR of ACE-DD group and ACE-ID group were significantly higher than that of ACE-Ⅱ group and FIN of ACE-DD was significantly higher than that of ACE-Ⅱ.The frequency of ACE-DD of EH patients with IR was significantly higher than that of EH patients without IR.The frequency of D allele of EH patients with IR was significantly higher than that of EH patients without IR.Conclusion The data suggest that ACE gene I/D polymorphism is correlated with insulin resistance in EH patients.D allele maybe a risk factor of insulin resistance in EH patients.
