Abstract
Objective To investigate the associations of the insertion/deletion(I/D) polymorphism of angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) gene and the 344C/T polymorphism of Aldosterone synthase(CYP11B2) gene with essential hypertension(EH).Methods The study covered 200 hypertension patients and 192 normotensive controls. The polymorphisms of ACE I/D and CYP11B2-344C/T were were determined by polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Biochemical indices including serum glucose(GLU),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high density lipoprotein(HDL) and low density lipoprotein(LDL)were also measured.Associations of genotype and allele frequencies with EH were analyzed. Results The polymorphism of ACE I/D between the EH group and the control group showed significant differences(P=0.022);the frequency of ACE gene D allele in the EH group was notably higher than in the control group(0.49 vs 0.37,P=0.012).ACE gene DD genotype was shown to be correlated with higher risk of EH after other risk factors being adjusted for by logistic regression analysis(P=0.003,OR=3.66,95%CI(1.54,8.69)).There was no significant difference in CYP11B2-344C/T genotype and allele frequencies between the case group and the control group. Conclusion ACE DD genetype is associated with essential hypertension and may be the risk factor of hypertension. The 344C/T polymorphism of CYP11B2 gene doesn′t qualify as an independent risk factor of EH.
