Abstract

Objective To study relationship of estrogen receptor,insulin-like growth factor type I and insulin-like growth factor type I receptor with uterine leiomyoma. Methods Expressions of estrogen receptor and insulin-like growth factor type I and insulin-like growth factor type I receptor were detected using immunohistochemistry method(SABC method). Results Expressions of ER 70%(28/40)and IGF-IR 67.5%(27/40) in uterine leiomyoma tissues were significantly higher than those in normal myomertrial tissues(P0.05).Expressions of ER and IGF-IR are very consistent in the same uterine leiomyoma tissues and the statistical analysis showed a correlation between expressions of estrogen receptor and insulin-like growth factor type I receptor. Conclusion The pathogenesis of uterine leiomyoma may be that estrogen receptor in uterine leiomyoma binds to estrogen and promotes expressions of peptide growth factors such as IGF-I and IGF-IR mRNA in uterine leiomyoma.Binding of IGF-I to IGFIR is contributive to development of uterine leiomyoma.
