Abstract

Objective To study the expression of Rac-1 and Ki-67 in primary pterygium by immunohistochemical method. The relationship among them was analyzed. The possibility was discussed utilizing of Rac1 and Ki-67 as a marker for assessment of biological characteristics of pterygium and we tried to provide reference for clinical practice. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to measure the expression of Rac1 and Ki-67 in 39 cases of primary pterygium and 12 cases of normal conjunctiva. Results The expression of Rac-1 and Ki-67 in primary pterygium were higher than normal conjunctiva with the difference being significant(Z=-3.386,Z=2.707,both P0.05).Expression of Rac1 and Ki-67 expression was negatively correlated(r=0.384,P0.05).Conclusion Rac1 and Ki-67 expression in the height of pterygium, suggesting that pterygium in the cytoskeleton, basement membrane breakdown and cell proliferation activity in metabolic changes.
