Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of rosiglitazone on the serum intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) levels, and find its possible protective effects on macroangiopathy.Method 24 Wistar rats were randomly assigned to normal control(group A) group, diabetic group(group B) and rosiglitazone treatment(group C) group.Rats in Group C were treated with rosiglitazone(5 mg·kg-1·d-1)one week after the establishment of diabetic model, group A and B were treated with corresponding sodium chloride.Blood glucose was testsd weekly, serum ICAM-1 level was tested by ELISA at the 8th week.Result At the 2nd,4th and 8th week, blood glucose levels in group B were similar to those of group C,which were much higher than those of group A(P0.01).serum ICAM-1 levels in group B and group C were higher than that of group A(P0.01),and serum ICAM-1 level in group C was lower than that of group B(P0.01).Conclusion Rosiglitazone has the effect of antiinflammation, which may play some protection against the progress of atherogenesis in diabetic rats.
