On the Aesthetic Modernity of Dance Works

Abstract

Western scholars,when doing research on modernity,consider humanas the construction of subjectively spiritual world,and emphasize its great impact on the whole world and society. In early modern society,westerners tended to bring rationality not only into the field of natural sciences,but also into artistic creations. This paper argues that the aesthetic modernity manifests itself in three aspects: rational principles,egoism and subjective consciousness. It focuses on the connotations of aesthetic modernity in dance works,and analyses the following aspects: the choice of dance works themes,the vocabulary of dance movements,the languages of staged directions,the artistic conceptions of dance works. This paper attempts to elucidate the reflections of aesthetic modernity and progressive significance of self- criticismin the hope of providing references and thoughts for dance works creation.
