English Vocabulary Teaching from the Perspective of the Metaphor Theory

According to Lakoff and Johnson,two scholars of modern metaphor theory,it can help to fully explain many language expression habits in English vocabulary,strengthen the understanding and comprehension of the underlying concepts in the concrete discourse for the learners,and lead them from a known field to a new cognitive domain to introduce metaphor theory into vocabulary study.The metaphor theory plays an important role in the acquisition of vocabulary.This paper analyzes the feasibility and necessity of the application of this theory in English vocabulary teaching,and draws the conclusion that it is a beneficial supplement to the existing glossary teaching methods.
