Research on English Vocabulary Teaching from the Perspective of Metaphor Cognitive Theory

Metaphor is not only a kind of rhetorical device but also an important cognitive instrument of thinking. The meanings of words are evolved by means of metaphors. From the view of metaphor cognition,the glossary teaching conforms to learners’ cognition rule. Based on it,this paper explores the feasibility of the application of this theory in English vocabulary teaching. Then it shows that teachers must raise learners’ metaphor cognition in learning vocabulary,and it helps improve the efficiency of English vocabulary learning.
