Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effect of esomeprazole on reflux esophagitis.Methods:Fifty-two patients with endoscopically proven reflux esophagitis were treated with esomeprasole 40mg/d.Reflux symptoms including regurgitation, heartburn and food refulx were observed at 2,4 and 6 weeks after treatment.Endoscopy was performed 6 weeks later to observe the healing rate, and the esophageal 24h pH was monitored. Results:After 2-week treatment with esomeprazole, all the symptoms were improved, and symptom scores were greatly decreased(P0.01).The effective rates were 53.84%,78.85% and 82.69%,respectively 2,4 and 6 weeks after treatment, and the effective rates 4 and 6 weeks after treatment were significantly higher than the effective rate 2 week after treatment(P0.01). The total symptom improvement rate was 92.3% at 6 weeks. After 6-week treatment, the endoscopic healing rate of grade I esophagitis was 93.75% much higher than grade II of 74.1% and grade III and grade IV of 66.7%(P0.05).The percentage of the total time of reflux and the total number of reflux decreased from(17.47±5.93)% and(151.2±37.5) times to(5.21±0.44)%(P0.01) and(60.1±14.83) times(P0.01),respectively.Conclusion:Esomeprazole is effective in the treatment of reflux esophagitis.
