Application and effects of lidocaine hydrochloride plasmagel in indwelling urethral catheterization

Objective To determine the effects of lidocaine hydrochloride plasmagel used as lubricator in reducing and eliminating urinary irritation amony patients with indwelling urethral catheterization.Methods A total of 240 patients were assigned into the experimental group and the control group,which would receive indwelling urethral catheterization.The control group used liquid paraffin as lubricator,whereas the experimental group used lidocaine hydrochloride plasmagel.The level of urinary irritation was compared between the two groups.Results The degree of urinary irritation associated with urethral catheterization was significantly lower in the experimental group than the control group(P0.01).Conclusion Lidocaine hydrochloride plasmagel as lubricator in indwelling urethral catheterization could reduce or eliminate the urinary irritation associated with urethral catheterization effectively.
