Application of Painless Catheterization by Lidocaine Hydrochloride in Male Patients with Urinary Retention after Hemorrhoid Surgery

Objective To explore the effect of painless catheterization by lidocaine hydrochloride in male patients with urinary retention after hemorrhoid surgery.Methods Sixty patients with urinary retention after hemorrhoid surgery were randomized into the two groups:control group with the conventional method of urethral catheterization and experimental group with 2% lidocaine hydrochloride soak in the urethral orifice and catheter coat by lidocaine for urethral catheterization.Comparisons were conducted on pain,urethral mucosa damages and urinary irritation symptoms in the process of catheterization between the two groups.Results The severity levels of pain,mucosa damage and urinary irritation symptoms were significantly lower in the experimental group than those in the control group(P0.01).Conclusion Lidocaine can relieve the pain in the process of catheterization,reduce the urinary mucosa damage,alleviate the urinary irritation symptoms and improve the comfort of patients.The operation is simple and economic,which is particularly suitable for application in basic-level medical units.
