Abstract
This paper first introduces the concepts of theme and rheme. Then it explains function of the text in virtue of theme choice, and with it to test the applicability of thematic progression in text analysis. It is pointed out that thematic progression pattern can be used to analyze the text and to provide a guidance for writing.
