The efficacy of donepezil in treatment of patients with vascular dementia

Objective To assess the efficacy of donepezil in treatment of vascular dementia.Methods 36 patients with vascular dementia were followed up with self-matched study for 12 weeks in department of neurology of weishan hospital and received MMSE, ADL test after treatment with donepezil 5mg/d.Results The results of self-matched trial showed remarkable improvement in MMSE, ADL by +0.86, -3.3 points respectively (P0.05) after treatment for 4 weeks, The score in MMSE, ADL was changes +3.93, -11.6 points for 12 weeks(P0.01).Two of the 36 patients treated with donepezil showed side effects of gently diarrhea, one case nausea, one case total body inertia.Conclusion Donepezil is effective in treating with vascular dementia, It can improve cognition and ability of daily life, Donepezil was well tolerated and safe.
