Clinical Observation of Banxia Xiexin Decoction in Prevention of Tardive Diarrhea Toxicity of Irinotecan

Objective:To observe the preventive efficacy on irinotecan-induced delayed diarrhea by Banxia Xiexin Decoction.Methods:Total of 55 patients with advanced cancer were assigned into herb group(n=26)and control group(n=29).Chemotherapy included irinotecan was given for 60 cycles in each group and patients in the herb group were administrated with Banxia Xiexin Decoction once a day from 1day before chemotherapy to 5 days after chemotherapy.The side effects such as myelosuppression,diarrhea,nausea and vomiting were evaluated.Results:The delayed diarrhea incidences induced by irinotecan in herb group and control group were 11.7% and 26.7%,respectively(P0.05).There were no obvious changes of grade Ⅲ-Ⅳdiarrhea in two groups(P0.05).The incidences of nausea and vomiting in herb group and control group were 65.0% and 88.3%,respectively(P0.05),and grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ nausea and vomiting were major reaction.Myelosuppression such as grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ leucopenia and thrombocytopenia in treatment group were 30.0% and 16.7%,while that were 26.7% and 18.3% in control group(P0.05).Conclusion:Banxia Xiexin Decoction could prevent irinotecan-induced delayed diarrhea and decrease occurrences of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
