Therapeutic effect of Heweiqingchang decoction on 24 cases of diarrhea caused by chemotherapy

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of Heweiqingchang decoction on diarrhea caused by chemotherapy in patients of advanced gastrointestinal tract tumor. Methods Forty four patients were randomly classified into two groups, in treatment group(n=24) Heweiqingchang decoction was orally taken,one dose daily,taken in two times(morning and evening);in control group (n=20) Bifico capsule was orally taken two pills each time, three times per day, with a therapeutic course of five days for both groups. Results The cure rate and total effective rate in treatment group were 83.3% , 100% respectively;as compared with 20.0%, 65.0% in control group, the differences between two groups were significant (P0.01). The effective rate of improving symptoms in treatment group was significantly higher than that in control group(P0.01).Conclusion Heweiqingchang decoction is effective for treating diarrhea caused by chemotherapy, and can improve the quality of life of patients with tumor.
