Abstract
He Qifan's Criticism about Poetic theory, the continuation of academic tradition of the study of Chinese new poems since May 4th Movement, serves as a bridge in the transformation of Chinese new poems into modernization. He puts forward a representative idea about the essence of poetry. However, there are some problems and weak points which need further study and perfection. His unique contribution to the study of Chinese new poems is his theory of modern metrical poems because he argues that the way out of new poems lies in the form itself. This is a clear weak point. Anyway, his practice of criticizing new poems provides some basic norms of poem criticism, i.e. following the law of poetic art, criticizing poems objectively, hearing different opinions, and advocating the style of academic criticism and independent personality of criticizing.
