Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical significance of lung resistance protein(LRP) in ovarian epithelial tumors. Methods The expressions of LRP and P gp were examined by immunochemical method in 54 ovarian epithelial carcinomas,15 borderline tumors,20 benign tumors and 18 normal ovarian tissues. The relationship between the expression of LRP and clinical pathologic features, resistance to chemotherapy and prognosis and also its correlation to P gp were analyzed. Results The positive rates of LRP and P gp in normal ovarian tissues、benign、borderline and malignant epithelial ovarian tumors were 38.9%、30.0%、80.0% and 75.9% respectively. The expression of LRP was associated with presence of ascites and histologic type. The response rate to chemotherapy in patients with positive LRP and negative LRP was 50.0% and 84.6% respectively( P 0.05).The LRP positive patients were poorer in prognosis than negative one( P 0.05).The expression of LRP had no correlation with P gp.Conclusion LRP expression in ovarian epithelial carcinoma is related to drug resistance and it is an useful prognostic marker.
